Students from Centria UAS and Georgia State University studied in joint ERP/SAP course lead by Simha Magal

SAP Next-Gen Lab in Kokkola, Centria

Centria University of Applied Sciences has started a collaboration with Georgia State University from Atlanta, USA. The tentative collaboration agreement includes student and staff exchange as well as project cooperation between the two universities. A concrete example of the cooperation is the joint enterprise resource planning ERP/SAP course that started this June. Professor Simha Magal, one of the leading ERP/SAP specialists in the world, will be teaching in the course.

- Centria UAS started the collaboration negotiations with GSU in the end of 2018. In the joint ERP/SAP course the students from both universities work with SAP related themes: problem solving and creative processes within different software environments, explains Janne Peltoniemi, the principal teacher and head of BBA-ERP.

The participating students are studying either business management or information technology in their home universities. Jonna Lahti, Ali Bitarafan and Phuong Truong, all former students of ERP/SAP emphasized Business Management degree programme from Centria UAS are now working as advisors for the new students.

- It is clear that educational institutions need to adapt to a new market, and in Centria’s Next Gen Lab many models are being tested to deliver a long-lasting learning experience to students. This collaborative course is giving us valuable experience which will, without a doubt, benefit us throughout our careers, say Jonna Lahti, Ali Bitarafan and Phuong Truong.

Students present their own projects for professors and other students in real-time. Meetings are held on Saturday evenings because of the time difference. During the weekdays the teams are working online. The closing seminar of the project will be held on July 13th-14th where various company representatives from the US together with professor Simha Magal are evaluating the students’ achievements.

Centria UAS is part of the global SAP University Alliances (SAP UA) network that offers free SAP software licenses to teaching, research and innovation for over 3 000 universities. In the fall 2018 Centria UAS started the ERP/SAP (Enterprise Recourse Planning) emphasized degree programme that collaborates closely with other international universities and enterprises such as Fujitsu, Wärtsilä and CGI. An MBA-level ERP/SAP programme starts in the fall 2019.
