Support with studies 

Centria Talent Get-Together meeting in Teams 26.1. at 15 - 16. 

At the meeting you will hear from Centria Director in Transnational Education, Mrs Francesca Cucinotta, Talent Boost Coordinator Mrs Outi Hakunti and Manager in Export Expert- project Mr Jyrki Rajala. We have also invited to join us at the meeting the Immigrant Coordinator Mrs Marianne Leimio-Seppä from the City of Kokkola. We will tell you about your opportunities to find a job/internship/work placement in Kokkola, and other services on how to settle in Kokkola area.

The meeting is about your studies at Centria, especially your study related internships/work placements in Finland etc. We would also like to know where you study at the moment – are you located in Kokkola or somewhere else in Finland, or still at your home country.

The meeting is non-formal, so you don´t need to prepare for the meeting. We hope to have an open and conversational meeting with you all.

1 Support during the studies

1.1 Individual support with pending assignments on campus

Do you need support with completing an assignment? Special education teacher is on campus in Kokkola in every Monday at 15-17 at the pink floor area. If you feel like your assignments don’t progress at home, come to campus on Mondays to work with us!

1.3 Finnish Language and Communication workshop

  • Content: The student receives guidance in a small group and in person according to the student’s needs. The student can bring his or her own written reports or essays for commenting. The student can get support in the written part of his or her thesis in this work shop. The workshop is intended for everyone, both Finnish and international students.

1.4 Swedish Language and Communication workshop

  • Content: The student receives guidance in a small group and in person according to the student’s needs. The aim is to strengthen the student’s Swedish language skills so that the studies can progress according to the personal study plan. The content is defined according to the learning objectives of the participants. The workshop is intended for everyone, both Finnish and international students.
  • Method of implementation: Participation is possible both face-to-face or online. The  workshop is held every other week. Next face-to-face meeting is on 21.9 in room 131. 1.5 English language and communication workshop

The aim is to strengthen the student’s English language skills so that the studies can progress according to the personal study plan. The content is defined according to the learning objectives of the participants. The workshop is intended for everyone, both Finnish and international students.

1.6 Finnish for Fun! Survival Finnish for International Students

1.7 Finnish Club

  • Objectives:  The student whose native language is not Finnish is able to use Finnish language as a tool for interacting with Finnish speaking people. The student is able to use simple Finnish everyday-life vocabulary and phrases (‘plain language’). The student is able to create multicultural networks and function in international groups using mainly Finnish.

1.8 Swedish Club

  • Objectives: The student is able to function in Finnish society in social situations related leisure time. The student whose native language is not Swedish is able to use  Swedish language as a tool for interacting with Swedish speaking people. 1.9 Support with Medical calcuations is organized for first year students within the Safety in Nursing study module. Timetable will be informed in the beginning of Spring semester.

 

1.10 ICT mentoring for IT-students.

  • Objectives: This course is for students who have challenges with ICT-studies. Student's can come bring their exercises and get help with them. Here you get support with programming challenges.

3 Support in job seeking (workshops, sessions and external providers)

3.1 Job seeking and working life events organized by the Dude-project

Open Dude-project events for students at Centria University of applied sciences. The material of the Dude-project is mainly in English. 3.2 Activities organized by the MyWay 2 -project

  • Contents: The MyWay2-project is developing and executing coaching sessions and functional workshops where the self-image of the participants is strengthened, personal skills are recognized and found out how to be used. The participants also get to network.

3.4 Job seeking and employment in Finland course

  • Content: Languages of the course material are English and Finnish. Spoken language of the course is English. The course includes lessons (online) and different kind of exercises (CV, cover letter, LinkedIn etc.) which helps you with job seeking in Finland. The course requires active attending during lessons and independent studying.

3.5 Momentum

The goal of Momentum is to improve employment and networking amongst the highly educated in Northern Finland. The project offers a wide range of services, including career coaching, working life lectures, peer group meetings, webinars, podcasts, internet-based coaching sessions and such, in both Finnish and English.

The most essential parts of the content are also broadcasted to target group living in the more remote areas in Northern Finland as webinars, internet-based work-shops and such. The aim is to increase the professional skills and knowhow of the target group, as well as to make the participants skilled and effective in their job seeking. Momentum has services in Finnish and for the core content also in English.

 

3.6 TE-services and TE-live

TE-live is a TE service that produces live broadcasts of job vacancies, various themes in working life and training opportunities.

The purpose of Nyyti's operations is to support students’ mental health and ability to study.
