Our programme in International Business provides our students with a strong base in business skills and tools to manage businesses in intercultural settings. The curriculum is designed to provide the skills and expertise in a large body of business fields. Students can start, manage and maintain their firms or develop their professions further in any local or international company, in Finland or abroad. They are also capable of adapting and managing ongoing changes in the working life environments, which keeps them in the top expertise level. Studies in this programme are based on blended learning, combining classroom studies, online classes and project work.

The degree awarded is a Bachelor of Business Administration. The extent of the degree is 210 ECTS and the duration is approx. 3,5 years. The degree consists of basic studies, professional studies, elective studies, work placement and thesis.

The basic studies include the basic business skills such as Basics of MS Office, Economics, Business Mathematics and project management skills. Included in the basics of business management are study periods such as Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, Business Law, Management and Starting Up Foreign Trade. They also include languge and communication skills.

In the professional studies the student studies three different modules within International Business to complete a total of 75 credits. These modules are about Creative Marketing, Global Business and Tourism and Event Management.

The elective studies support and complete the student's individual study plan and professional orientation. Work placement gives the student a possibility to strengthen their expertise in demanding duties corresponding to their line of degree programme. When writing the thesis the student applies and reinforces the skills and expertise acquired. The thesis is usually commissioned by a company or an organiszation and it includes a research or a development project.

The studies strengthen the student's knowledge of Business Management and business in general, the knowledge of the practices in business and the ability to apply this knowledge in working life. The studies focus on professional knowledge and skills and on versatile development, social and communication skills. A Bachelor of Business Administration masters various skills and expertise in business.

The overall objective of the program is to provide the students with professional, international, personal and social competences to operate in an international business environment. The program provides good possibilities to study in an international environment, as this is a group of multicultural students. The degree programme will be taught in Englishat Campus Allegro, in the city centre of Pietarsaari

ELIGIBILITY

The following education gives you eligibility in Centria's direct application:

- International Baccalaureate completed outside Finland
- Reifeprüfung completed outside Finland
- European baccalaureate completed outside Finland
- foreign education that gives eligibility to apply to higher education in the country in question

Centria University of Applied Sciences uses discretionary admission in the direct application in 2019, which means that the applicant can be considered eligible for the entrance examination even if he/she would not meet the general admission criteria. Discretion may come in question in the following situation:

  • Applicant’s (who is not a citizen of an EU/EEA-country) final certificate will not be available by the end of the application period, and therefore a photocopy of it cannot be sent by a set date. Applicant can be invited to the entrance examination if he/she can provide with an official temporary certificate or statement of results which is given by the organization awarding degrees (for example in Nigeria or Ghana an official statement of results sent to Centria directly from WAEC or NECO or in Kenya statement of results sent directly from the KNEC).

If you are a refugee or in a refugee-like situation and the qualifications you have obtained cannot be proven through documentary evidence, the UAS' concerned can still invite you to the entrance examination. In this case, you must prove the refugee status by a decision made by a competent authority and send a copy of the decision (a decision on asylum or a residence permit granted by a need for protection) to the admissions office by the set date.

 

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

DEGREE PROGRAMME IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS: MOTIVATION LETTER AND MOTIVATION VIDEO

Motivation letter and motivation video           40 points / maximum

The maximum score is 40 points, while the minimum acceptable score is 10 points.

When the student selection is based on motivation letter and motivation video, applicants might also be invited to Skype-interview if necessary.

Eligibility

Eligibility in this application period is given by a foreign education that provides eligibility to apply for higher education in the country in question

Those applying in this application period (with a non-Finnish qualification) must submit a copy of his or her qualification certificate translated into Finnish, Swedish or English by an official (authorised) translator, if the original document is in none of these languages. Such translations must be signed and stamped by the translator. The translations must be submitted to the address given in the application form. The deadline will be announced later.

Please notice that if you are applying with a qualification completed in Finland you cannot be considered eligible in this application period but you should apply in joint application between 20th March - 3rd April 2019.

Discretionary admission 2019

Centria University of Applied Sciences uses discretionary admission in Direct application to Centria in January 2019 and in Joint application in 2019, which means that the applicant can be considered eligible even if he/she would not meet the general admission criteria. Discretion may come in question in the following situation:

  • applicant’s (who is not a citizen of an EU/EEA-country) final certificate will not be available by the end of application period and therefore a photocopy of it cannot be sent by set date. Applicant can be invited to the entrance examination if he/she can provide with an official temporary certificate or statement of results which is given by the organisation awarding degrees (for example in Nigeria or Ghana an official statement of results sent to Centria directly from WAEC or NECO or in Kenya statement of results sent directly from the KNEC).
    • Above mentioned documents must arrive to Centria UAS by the deadline that will be announced later. Copies of final original certificates must then be sent to Centria UAS (deadline will be announced later). If the applicant does not send the copy of final certificate by set date, the confirmation of the study place will not be registered and the student admission will be cancelled.

 

How to apply via discretionary admission

You can apply at www.studyinfo.fi and follow the regular procedure for applying. 

The copies of the certificates (A4 size) must arrive to Centria UAS by the deadline which will be announced later. Any later certificates will not be accepted and the applicant will not be considered as a candidate for admission. Faxed copies will not be accepted.

 

Refugees (in Finland)

Motivation letter

For the degree programme in International Business there are no entrance exams.

In order to complete the process of applying to Centria to this degree programme you need to create a motivation letter via a link that you get after submitting your application at Studyinfo.fi.

The motivation letter has to include your personal information, link to your Linkedin page (or CV) and answers to the specified questions that include for example your international experience.

You must also include a link to a video where you for example state, why you are applying to Centria and how the studies of the programme support your professional goals.

The motivation letter including the video will be assessed. It's possible also to get points if you have other relevant documents such as IELTS (6.0) or other official documents. Please note that IELTS is not mandatory but will give you an advantage.
