Applying with education completed outside Finland 

The next application period for degree programmes conducted in English will be arranged between 4 January and 22 January 2021. The offered programmes and more information about them can be found here. The application period ends on 22 January 2021 at 3 pm Finnish time (UTC +2). This application period is only for applicants applying with a qualification completed outside Finland. For applicants accepted in this application round, the studies are set to begin in August 2021.




In the January 2021 application round, Centria UAS offers 8 different Bachelor´s degree programmes. The offered programmes and more information about them can be found here


Centria UAS´degree programmes is not part of the Joint application of Higher Education, Spring 2021. For this reason, it is only possible to apply via the Centria / Direct application spring 2021. The application process takes place at when the application period starts. The application process is free of charge for all applicants. Applicants can be admitted if they meet eligibility requirements, submit a valid application, attach required documents and successfully pass the entrance exam.



Eligibility criteria

For this specific direct application round, the following education give applicants eligibility to apply for Bachelor´s programmes:

  • International Baccalaureate completed outside Finland
  • Reifeprüfung completed outside Finland
  • European baccalaureate completed outside Finland
  • Foreign education that gives eligibility to apply to higher education in the country in question


Centria University of Applied Sciences uses discretionary admission in the direct application in 2021, which means that the applicant can be considered eligible even if he/she would not meet the general admission criteria. Discretion may come in question in the following situation:

  • The applicant’s (who are not a citizen of a EU/EEA-country) final certificate will not be available by the end of the application period, and therefore a photocopy of it cannot be sent by a set date. The applicant can further proceed in the application process if he or she can provide an official temporary certificate or statement of results which is given by the organization awarding degrees (for example in Nigeria or Ghana an official statement of results sent to Centria directly from WAEC or NECO or in Kenya statement of results sent directly from the KNEC).
  • If the applicant is a refugee or in a refugee-like situation and formerly obtained qualifications cannot be proven through documentary evidence, Centria can excuse the applicant and he or she can proceed in the application process. In this case, an applicant must prove the refugee status by a decision made by a competent authority and send a copy of the decision (a decision on asylum or a residence permit granted by a need for protection) to the Admissions office by a set date.


Filling the application

Applicants start the application process by filling an online application form during the application period at There is no need for using education agents since the application is publicly available to everyone via Internet as well as the admission process follows predefined admissions criteria which an agent cannot influence. When filling the application form, applicants are advised to double check if the given postal address is up to date and the given email address is functional. A functional email address is particularly important in order to be able to be contacted later on with decisions and further guidelines. The email address provided in the application form will be taken as the official channel of communication and will not be changed later in the process. Once the application has successfully been registered, including an official copy of secondary education certificate, applicants receive an application number. If an application number is received, applicants do not have to contact Centria´s Admissions office to confirm that the application has arrived.


The deadline for filling in the application and submitting it is 22 January 2021, 3pm Finnish time. After submitting the application, applicants can still make changes in the application or attach additional documents to it. The deadline for making changes and submitting attachments is 25 January 2021 3pm Finnish time.

Admission criteria 

The student selection is done based on:

  • an online entrance examination 


  • a video made by the applicant according the instructions OR a valid IELTS result equal or greater than 6.0



  • I have a valid IELTS test result equal of greater than 6.0
    • Attach a copy of the IELTS result to your application by the deadline and take part to the online entrance examination.
  • I do not have a valid IELTS test result equal or greater than 6.0
    • make a video according the instructions and attach it to your application and take part to the online entrance examination.

Please notice, that IELTS Test report forms are valid for 2 years, and Centria will not accept them if they expired.

  • While filling in the application at, students have to submit EITHER motivation video (contents of the video - accorning to the instructions written in the application), OR valid IELTS result equal or greater than 6.0 points.
  • Also, all students MUST participate in the entrance exam. After students participate in the entrance exam, those who will score more than 50% of the maximum points, will be qualified for the second round. In the second round, motivation videos and IELTS tests will be checked and evaluated by Centria´s teachers and Admission officers.


Online entrance exam 

Online entrance exams will be based on pre-reading materials. The materials will be published on our website when the application period starts on 4 January 2020. There will be three pre-reading materials, one per each field. If applicant applies for programmes from different fields (for example Nursing and Business Management), he or she needs to read two pre-reading materials and participate in two entrance exams (26 January for Bachelor of Business entrance exam and 28 January for Bachelor of Health Care exam).

Online entrance exams will be organized as follows:

  • 26 January 2021 Bachelors of Business Administration (Business Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, International Business)
  • 27 January 2021 Bachelors of Engineering (Business Intelligence Technologies, Environmental Chemistry and Technology, Information Technology, Industrial Management)
  • 28 January 2021 Bachelor of Health Care (Nursing)

If applicant applies for programmes from different fields (for example Nursing and Business Management), he or she needs to participate in both entrance exams (26 January for Bachelor of Business entrance exam and 28 January for Bachelor of Health Care exam).


Language tests

Language tests are not neccessary required during the application process. However, if you have a valid IELTS result equal or greater than 6.0, after completing the entrance exam, you do not need to further create a motivation video.



Admission results

Admission results for the January 2021 applicants will be announced by 31 March 2021 the latest. All accepted applicants will be informed about their admission by e-mail. It is essential to apply with a valid email address so the results are will reach the applicants. After being admitted, in order to be able to start their studies, applicants still have to accept the study place by logging into and accept the offered study place. The deadline for accepting the offered study place is 16 July 2021, 3pm Finnish time. If applicants have problems using the Internet and accessing the, a pdf form can be provided by the Admissions office. By accepting the study place, applicants also register themselves as present for the first academic year. If applicants wish to register as absent, they have to check the Enrolment section of Centria´s website to see if they are eligible to apply for such status and consult it further with the Admissions office.


Tuition fee payment

Tuition fee concerns only citizens of non-EU/EEA countries. Applicants can find information about the tuition fee payment sum, payment details and payment deadlines in the acceptance letter.

Newly accepted students have a right to get an early bird discount, which means a discount of 1500€ of the first year's tuition fee under the condition that the reduced tuition fee is paid within two weeks after receiving an acceptance letter. Detailed instructions considering the early bird discount will be sent with the acceptance letter.

Residence permit

Once a tuition fee is paid, we advise students to immediately start the residence permit process. It is possible to do so at the nearest Finnish consulate or embassy after getting the notice of acceptance letter. The precondition for obtaining a residence permit is a letter of acceptance from the university, a tuition fee payment confirmation, a valid health insurance coverage with a reliable and solvent company or institution, as well as a prove of sufficient funds in order to be able to self-support a student life in Finland.
