The application period ends on 31 January, 2020 at 3 pm. Finnish time (UTC +2). This application period is only for applicants applying with a qualification completed outside Finland.

For this reason, it is only possible to apply via the Centria / Direct application for Bachelor's degrees / spring 2020.  Application timeline 2020

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

For this specific direct application round, the following education give applicants eligibility to apply for Bachelor´s programmes:

  • International Baccalaureate completed outside Finland
  • Reifeprüfung completed outside Finland
  • European baccalaureate completed outside Finland
  • foreign education that gives eligibility to apply to higher education in the country in question

Centria University of Applied Sciences uses discretionary admission in the direct application in 2020, which means that the applicant can be considered eligible even if he/she would not meet the general admission criteria. Discretion may come in question in the following situation:

  • Applicant’s (who are not citizens of EU/EEA-countries) final certificate will not be available by the end of the application period, and therefore a photocopy of it cannot be sent by a set date. Applicant can further proceed in the application process if he or she can provide an official temporary certificate or statement of results which is given by the organization awarding degrees (for example in Nigeria or Ghana an official statement of results sent to Centria directly from WAEC or NECO or in Kenya statement of results sent directly from the KNEC).
  • If applicant is a refugee or in a refugee-like situation and formerly obtained qualifications cannot be proven through documentary evidence, Centria can excuse the applicant and he or she can proceed in the application process. In this case, an applicant must prove the refugee status by a decision made by a competent authority and send a copy of the decision (a decision on asylum or a residence permit granted by a need for protection) to the Admissions office by a set date.

FILLING THE APPLICATION

Applicants start the application process by filling an online application form during the application period at Studyinfo.fi. There is no need for using education agents since the application is publicly available to everyone via Internet as well as the admission process follows predefined admissions criteria which an agent cannot influence. When filling the application form, applicants are advised to double check if given postal address is up to date and given email address is functional. Functional email address is particularly important in order to be able to contact applicants later on with decisions and further guidelines. Email address provided in the application form will be taken as official channel of communication and will not be changed later in the process. Once the application has successfully been registered, including an official copy of secondary education certificate, applicants receive an application number. If an application number is received, applicants do not have to contact Centria´s Admissions office to confirm if the application has arrived.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

There are no traditional entrance exams for any of Centria´s programmes. Instead, for the Nursing programme, applicants submit a motivation video and a motivation letter, based on which if further needed, they will be invited for a Skype interview with one of Centria´s teachers. For the other programmes, there are two options of admission. Students might choose to either submit a motivation video and a motivation letter, or secondly submit SAT results.

Information concerning the motivation video and the motivation letter is delivered to applicants via two streams. Firstly, the guidelines are already included in the very end of the application form and secondly, they are sent via email once the application is submitted. Shortly, applicants create a video which they upload to a video-sharing website of their choice and share the link with Centria via an online platform which will be announced to applicants further on via email. Concerning the motivation letter, applicants write a letter of motivation and submit it to the selected online platform as well.

Applicants can apply for all Bachelor programmes except of the Nursing programme with the SAT results. Only results from the new SAT test (taken after March 2016) are acceptable. Score reports should be ordered electronically by applicants directly from the test center and need to be delivered to Centria UAS by 3rd of February. Reports printed or sent by the applicant him/herself are not acceptable. Centria´s designated SAT code is 7819. Centria UAS requires you to take the SAT test which includes Reading test, Writing and Language test and Math test. Centria UAS requires applicants to score a minimum of 400 points from evidence-based reading and writing and a minimum of 400 points from Mathematics. Essay results are not required.

LANGUAGE TESTS

Language tests are not required during the application process, although applicants get additional points if they submit an IELTS academic certificate with a result equal or greater than 6.0 points.

GUARANTEED ADMISSION

If an eligible applicant reaches a total score of at least 1200 points from the SAT test (and meets the minimum requirements mentioned above) and submits an IELTS academic certificate (with a result equal or greater than 6.0 points), he or she is guaranteed a study place at chosen programme.

ADMISSION RESULTS

Admission results will be announced by 10 April, 2020 the latest. All accepted applicants will be informed about their admission by e-mail. It is essential to apply with a valid email address so the results are able to reach the applicants. After being admitted, in order to be able to start their studies, applicants still have to accept the study place by logging into Studyinfo.fi and accepting the offered study place. If applicants have problems using the Internet and accessing the Studyinfo.fi, a pdf form can be provided by the Admissions office. By accepting the study place, applicants also register themselves as present for the first academic year. If applicants wish to register as absent, they have to check the Enrolment section of Centria´s website to see if they are eligible to apply for such status and consult it further with the Admissions office.

TUITION FEE PAYMENT

After accepting the study place, applicants receive an email with tuition fee payment instructions. The tuition fee concerns only citizens of NON-EU/EEA countries. Newly accepted students have a right to get an early bird discount, which means a discount of 1500€ of the first year's tuition fee under the condition that the reduced tuition fee is paid within two weeks after receiving an acceptance letter. Detailed instructions considering the early bird discount  will be sent alongside with the acceptance letter.

More information including the tuition fees and who is obligated to pay them, the scholarships and other discounts can be found here.

RESIDENCE PERMIT

Once a tuition fee is paid, we advise students to immediately start the residence permit process. It is possible to do so at the nearest Finnish consulate or embassy after getting the notice of acceptance letter. The precondition for obtaining a residence permit is a letter of acceptance from the university, a tuition fee payment confirmation, a valid health insurance coverage with a reliable and solvent company or institution, as well as a prove of sufficient funds in order to be able to self-support a student life in Finland. Further information can be found on the website of the Finnish Immigration Service.
