Erasmus Policy Statement
Centria University of Applied Sciences (Centria) is an international, multicultural higher education institution. When choosing partner institutions, both EU and non-Eu Partners, it is of utmost importance that the institution share the same values and have a similar profile in their degree programmes as Centria. We want to partner with institutions that focus on educationg students to be global-minded citizens of the world. We want our partners to focus on combining a solid academic training with practical work placements and strong research and development.
Centria´s partnerships can be divided into three categories based on how long the cooperation has existed, how regular the cooperation is and the depth of the cooperation.
1. Institutional Partners
With Institutional Partners we have anuually reoccurring cooperation, the cooperation involves multiple degree programmes at multiple campuses and the cooperation has been ongoing for many years.
2. Degree Programme Partners
With Degree Programme Partners a degree programme have annually reoccurring cooperation that has been going on for may years.
3. Developing Partners
Developing Partners are new partners or partners with whom we have sporadic cooperation.
Under the Programme Centria will focus on strenghtening and broadening existing partnerships.

Centria strives to have partnerships on all continents in order to create a genuinely international higher education institution and to provide our students with the best possible options for developing international competences.
The main focus for our partnerships is Western Europe, North America and the BRIC countries. However, we also value our cooperation in other parts of the world, e.g. Central Africa and Asia. For Centria, the cooperation is not based on geography - it is based on philosophy.
Under the Programme, Centria will focus on building strategic partnerships with higher education intitutions with compatible academic profiles and philosophy, emphasizing systemic mobility periods in our programmes, frequent staff exchanges, joint curriculum development and double degrees.
Goals for International Mobility
At Centria, internationalisation is a cross-sectional process that increases both the quality and attractiveness of the degree programmes and influences research and development, as well as support services. Mobility is the foundation for the internationalisation process at Centria. The main goals for international student and staff mobility are to:
Create a genuinely international higher education institution.
Increase the quality and attractiveness of our degree programmes.
Support a multicultural society.
Support global responsibility.
The vast majority of our students are cycle one students, and the focus for our international exchanges is to provide them with the opportunity to develop international competences and gain international experience in their field. Incoming students provide our domestic students with the opportunity to study in an international environment and to develop intercultural communication skills by studying and interacting with the exchange students. Both inbound and outbound mobility increase the understanding for global issues and global responsibility and promote positive attitudes towards multiculturalism.
In order to create a genuinely international higher education institution, Centria also supports all staff members to annually take part in an international exchange. For outgoing teachers, the teaching during the exchange should be part of an on-going course at the host institution. For outgoing staff, their exchange should relate to the their task at Centria. Similarly, for incoming exchange teachers and staff; their teaching and activities at Centria should be a natural part of the on-going activity on our campuses.
The goal for international mobility at Centria is that 15 percent of our studnets go on a long exchange during their studies at Centria, and taht a similar number of incoming students study for a term or two at Centria. For staff, the goal is that 25 percent of all staff members annually take part in an international exchange.
Under the Programme, Centria will increase or maintain current levels of both incoming and outgoing exchanges and focus on increasing the quality of the exchanges and the number of degree programmes receiving incoming exchange students. Centria will also emphasize the importance of teacher and staff exchanges and a more structured integration of these into the teaching.
Double Degrees and Joint Degrees
Centria currently have four double degree agreements. Under the Programme, Centria will focus on further developing joint curriculum development and other co-operation with existing double degree partners and establishing double degree agreements in all fields of study.
